Life Groups – The Next Big Thing

life-groups-flatIn our short history as the Journey, we haven’t had alot of big things roll down the pike, but this one is really big. I say this because it is one of those real shaping influences that further sets our DNA as a new church. We are not like alot of other churches that have additional programs that revolve around the Sunday worship service like a planet around the sun.  Instead, anything that we introduce to you, is an essential part of the fabric that makes us who we are.

“Life groups” will be as much a part of who we are as the Sunday worship service. In fact, they compliment one another in such a way that in order to be really whole at the Journey, you will want to be deeply involved in both of these things. So, when we talk about life groups, we are not talking about an offered program that may or may not be for you. We are, instead, talking about a way of doing life with each other that we believe will benefit every single person at the Journey. Our great hope is to have the vast majority of people plugged into these groups so that the kind of community that we have here becomes intrinsic to who we are. We will no longer be “Lone Ranger” types who do the best they can with their lives, but rather, people whose lives are become wider and deeper because of the intimate relationships that they are forming with others, which brings incalculable benefit into your lives.

In Life Groups, you can expect the freedom to be authentic without fear of judgment, and honest without fear of rejection. Life groups will be a safe place for everyone, and a place of growth for all who are willing to invest in the relationships that are offered there. You can also expect the collective strength of your group to be an encouragement to you, and a shoulder to help bear your burdens. It will be a place where shepherding goes on as a normal part of doing life together, as people start to care, I mean really care, about people other than themselves. These groups will also provide tremendous opportunities to demonstrate the love of Jesus to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. If they are able to view first-hand the kind of love that God forges between His people, it will have a magnetic affect on many. These groups will also be the thrust of ministry out into the communities around us. We will regularly do service projects for our city and other groups that could use our help. On top of all of this, Life groups will be fun. In fact, a life group that is not having an amazing time together and celebrating the joys of life and the goodness of God together, will need to get reprogrammed so that happens.

In short, Life groups, will be the expression of life together at the Journey. Please be praying for the leadership so that we are able to shape and craft groups that will be the vehicles of exciting ministry into your lives.

Welcome to The Journey

We are a new church plant on the west side of Atlanta in the Austell and Mableton area. At the Journey, we are trying to re-form the church around the teachings and example of Jesus Himself while building relational bridges to people in the current culture. Out with the self-righteous, judgmental attitudes and the useless religious traditionalism, and in with the fresh wind of the timeless teachings of love and forgiveness, acceptance and repentance.
